Amethyst was founded in December 1982 by Alison Hunter. Alison’s vision at that time was to bring into existence an organisation that would provide and support any healing, of body mind and spirit, including personal growth. Amethyst was granted Charitable status in February 1991 (No. 6737), and then formed as a limited company, known as Amethyst Resource for Human Development (No 297436). Its charitable status has remained. The main objective of Amethyst is: “To facilitate the deployment of educational and therapeutic skills incorporating training and counselling, healing, inter-personal skills and personal growth by the organisation, and provision of public lectures, workshops, private consultations, training groups and the publication of relevant materials.” In ancillary to the main object, the organisation further endeavours to achieve the following:
Amethyst is recognised as an international resource and research centre by the Association for Pre and Perinatal Psychology and Health who have their headquarters in the USA. Close contact is maintained with the Association, William Emerson and past presidents including Barbara Findeisen, Dr. David Chamberlain, and Dr. Thomas Verny. Shirley Ward has been an international adviser to the Association since 1991. Students take part in this research so that the importance of understanding Pre and Perinatal Psychology for would be parents may be facilitated and developed. |
